The Golden Rock Pagoda (Kyaiktiyo) in Mon State, is one of the most revered Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Myanmar. Reportedly built on one of the Buddha’s hairs, it is surrounded by much folklore, and from certain angles appears to defy gravity. It’s in a beautiful location surrounded by lush mountains on every side, giving beautiful views of sunrise and sunset. You’ll see flocks of local worshippers paying homage when your reach the top. A little hiking off the concrete path will lead you to a waterfall where you can swim. Maybe you can find a cave where Buddhist monks practice meditation.
After Kyaiktiyo, you will visit Yangon, Bago, and Thanlyin. Check out the Around Yangon page for more info on these sites.
